A very warm welcome to the Self Realized Podcast. Shaft in your limits. I am Linton Berkson and this is episode 31,.
Speaker 1:Finding your Way Through the Maze of Life, which, at best of times, can be very difficult, given all the different things that can be thrown at us in this maze as we walk through life every day, from feelings of loneliness, depression, anxiety, frustration, fear all that are very prevalent right now in our society, as we go through each day and each year, especially as we came out of COVID and we're still recovering from all of what happened to us and how we move forward, the emotional impact from that particular event. Of course, there are always very good things that happen to us and we have obviously happy times and very, very positive times. Today's episode is focusing on finding your way through the maze of life, which is more geared towards looking and walking through this obstacle course. Sometimes, if you've ever been in a maze which I was at a very young age and this is how I kind of got this story I want to share with you today. I was at Hampton Court Maze, which is a hedge maze at Hampton Court Palace, which is the oldest surviving hedge maze in Britain. It's about a third of an acre. It was commissioned by King William III and at a very young age I was at this maze. I was walking through it. The hedges are quite high so you can't see over the top.
Speaker 1:I had ventured in the maze by myself, as I was prone to do at a very young age, and carry out some exploring. I was going back and forth and trying to find my way through the maze Couldn't quite navigate it as quickly as I thought I could, which is a whole lesson within itself and trying to find my way through this maze, suddenly I began to have a little anxiety and panic going on and from nowhere, a gentleman came up to me and he must have seen that I was very young. He was an official from the maze and he said to me would you like me to guide you out of the maze? It seems as though you need some help. And I trusted him and I allowed him to guide me out of the maze. I thought to myself that was a very fortuitous situation, that this person would arrive just at the right moment to guide me through this maze and out into the open on the other side. And there's a lesson there for all of us.
Speaker 1:You look at life as a maze, as we are, you and I, trying to find our way through the maze of life, through all these different circumstances and situations that we find ourself in on an ongoing basis. However, the language that we use and talk to ourself with through our self-talk which I discussed more in episode 24, unveiling the truth about self-talk and affirmations, if you'd like to listen to that is not correct, because we are not actually looking to find our way through the maze. The differentiating fact in my getting through the maze was I was guided through the maze when I got stuck and began to have feelings of anxiety, fear, frustration, which we all feel in everyday life, ongoing. Somehow something, someone turned up and offered me guidance. I was no longer looking or trying to find my way through the maze. Guidance was offered. I surrendered to that guidance, trusted it and took the guidance that alleviated the fear, anxiety and frustration and led me through the other side, into the clear, relieve the anxiety, fear and concern. Now I was free to go about my way.
Speaker 1:The problem you and I have is that sometimes we're looking to find our way out of a situation. Think on that word for a moment. If you're trying to find something, you are trying to find the solution, you're trying to find a way, and when you try to find a way, that is totally up to you because you are looking for something. Searching for something you may have felt that you've lost, which is very different from being guided towards something. If you have lost your keys and you try to find them, it can get very frustrating because you keep looking and looking and looking and you can't find them. I'm sure that you've had this happen to you, where you've just decided to let go. You know they'll show up. You have no choice sometimes if you can't find them. And there they were, on the table and you kept walking by them. That happened to me and for some reason you didn't see it because it was right in front of you but you couldn't find them. But when you let go and, just in that moment of surrender, allowed the thought to come to you and relax, it was right in front of you.
Speaker 1:Surrender is a very powerful tool to begin to use in your everyday life when you're navigating through the maze of life, because if you understand that you cannot solve everything and you cannot find the answer to everything, you are going to begin to open up to the very strong possibility of mastering surrender as a very strong and positive life skill, allowing you to be guided through each individual situation to a resolution and that is a lot less stressful, frustrating allows you to have more energy to solve the situation you're in than if you are constantly trying to focus all your energy on finding a solution. This may sound counterintuitive because you may think to yourself well, if I'm letting go and I am surrendering and I'm allowing myself to be guided through the maze of life, then that could possibly be more stressful than me trying to control the situation and find a solution. Contemplate on this for a moment as I am speaking to you now in this episode. Think these words to yourself, feel them in your body and say to yourself I am finding a solution, I am going to find a solution, no matter what. Then say to yourself I surrender the situation to everything that is possible.
Speaker 1:I am guided to the right solution through the right processes and right people. One has attention to it, it has a aggression to it, it has an assertion to it. The other has a more relaxed tone because you're letting go and anytime you let go of anything, you become more relaxed and receptive to the possibilities that surround you. If you clench your fist and you get up tight, that creates tension in your body because you're getting into that aggressive mode and you are in fight mode. Now, if you relax your fist and you relax your body, you're now in a relaxed mode and you are calmer. You cannot receive anything with a clench fist, only with an open hand. In that state a much better solution can come to you than fighting, because sometimes that is what trying to find a solution creates in you a sense of conflict, in a turmoil, which in turn creates more problems, because it can create emotions within you that make you make bad decisions. Letting go, relaxing your hands, letting your body relax, allows a flow to enter in you that gives you inspiration.
Speaker 1:Surrender is very underestimated in our lives because we sometimes see that as maybe a weakness, but anything that we require in life you require in life, I require in life comes from a place of deep, intuitive, inspirational surrender. Mastering surrender is a life skill. It doesn't mean that you're passive. It doesn't mean that you're not doing anything. It means you're allowing a space within you, within your being and within your mind, for something to communicate with you that couldn't otherwise if you were constantly occupying the space with your own thoughts and your own solutions. Inspiration and intuition do not come from you occupying space. They come from you allowing the divinity within you to enter in you and give you the answer that you're looking for.
Speaker 1:Just as I was in the maze, someone came out of the blue and said would you like me to help you? And in the same way, help will come to you in ongoing situations in your life, and it will be a divine source. It will be a source of energy that's coming from a different place, a place that you may call cosmic consciousness, spirituality, divine awareness. These things are very real as long as you cultivate them and the beauty of this source. It will communicate with you on this level of a sense of intuitive knowing, giving you information, just as a person did in the maze.
Speaker 1:When I was young, they asked me would you like some help? You look frustrated and anxious to get you through the other side of the maze. I did not have to take the help. I did not have to surrender that point, and neither do you. I could have said no. I could have gone on going round and round the maze trying to find and there's the operative word the solution to getting out of the maze, instead of allowing this person to guide me through the other side, which required in me a sense of trust and acceptance that this individual could do. That we all have to trust and we all have to accept guidance throughout our lives.
Speaker 1:If you think back on your life, you had to, no matter what, at some point accept that someone was able to guide you through a situation or at least learn something you didn't know anything about before you mastered it. Your parents were teaching you before you mastered certain things School teachers, different mentors that we've had in our life. One of the major keys in life is learning to trust and surrender your life, your experiences, what you're going through, to something that is available to you 24-7, 365 days a year. But the key to it is this highly underestimated term, surrender. Surrender is going to change your life on so many levels. Let's get practical for a moment and let's talk about, as I did at the beginning of this episode loneliness and how surrender helps you with loneliness and how it can bring about a solution, because that's what you want. If you're feeling lonely or you're feeling depressed, you want a solution to that issue. Surrender does not mean you do nothing. That's a big mistake that people make about this term surrender. It does not mean that you do nothing. As it is said, god helps those who help themselves.
Speaker 1:If you are feeling lonely, you want to start getting out from behind the computer. Stop necessarily always being on social media. Make a very concerted effort to go out and start meeting people, even if it's just going out to a coffee shop, even if it means just going out to get a juice or whatever your preference is, or going out of an evening. Begin to engage people. You begin to engage people, and if you have a little bit more of an introverted personality, then you will have to start having the courage to step out of that introversion and have a little bit more of extraversion, which essentially means getting out of your comfort zone Anytime you want to make a change, anytime you want to see something different in your life.
Speaker 1:If you want a great progress, you're gonna have to make a change, which I discussed in the previous episode 30, how you create change for a better life. When you go out, you engage people. You're not necessarily going to decide what the outcome is going to be. You're gonna surrender that. You are simply going to engage more people by simple hello, by eye contact, and strike up a conversation. That is the beginning of breaking that pattern of loneliness and depression, which could be as simple as you just staying home too much and not getting out. You have to make that concerted effort in yourself that you're not gonna have that pattern of behavior anymore. When you go out, things will begin to happen Because as you surrender the outcome, you will find out that the action that you're doing will bring about the necessary outcome that you desire.
Speaker 1:In surrendering that and not constantly thinking about, well, when will I meet someone? How will I make friends, that is not surrender. Surrender is simply allowing that to unfold naturally by the actions that we have taken. That natural unfoldment is the surrender. For example, you may speak to someone. They may give you their contact information. You exchange yours with them, you strike up a friendship and things move on from there. But the fact that you made the contact means that you are open to the energy that will now fund you.
Speaker 1:What it is that you were looking for. You didn't go to find it. You went out in the world to engage people in order to help you build friendships and break the cycle of loneliness. The right people will be guided to you, and that is trust. Trust and surrender go hand in hand. You didn't go out to find someone or anyone. You went out to allow people, the right people, to be guided to you. There is a subtle and profound difference between those two. Once you understand the difference, you can apply what is needed that allows you to be in control of your life, knowing that surrender will bring you that which is guided to you. You will find that you have a lot less stress and a lot more openness in your life to what is possible. A major key to finding your way through the maze of life is that you can only receive anything with an open hand. Essentially, it is always important to remember you can control the outcome to nothing, so life by default is one big surrender.
