Life Unfiltered: Raw Truths And Real Talk
Join me, Linton Bergsen, in this episode of the Self Realized, Shatter Your Limits Podcast about Life Unfiltered: Raw Truths and Real Talk. I dive into life's challenges, inspired by the movie Rocky and Sylvester Stallone’s iconic words to his son: “It's not about how hard you hit, but how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.” I'm here to challenge you to have an honest conversation with yourself about your responsibilities, limits, and what truly holds you back. Often, it's those whispers of doubt and external criticism that keep you stuck in the status quo.
But imagine embracing a mindset of courage, commitment, and conviction to break free from those invisible chains. It's not just possible—it's necessary—to stop worrying about what others think and focus on how you perceive yourself.
Join me as I explore the journey of pursuing a meaningful life. Facing obstacles and criticism is inevitable, but they can forge the strongest steel out of your character.
I'll share personal stories and insights into how practices like meditation and solitude can become your refuge, much like a boxer dodging blows in the ring. Through these experiences, you’ll discover the power of perseverance and self-belief. By facing challenges head-on, I assure you that victory—whether personal or professional—is within reach.

Welcome to the Self-Realized Podcast with Linton Bergsen, where you will shatter your limits. I am not much into the self-help industry as much as I'm into the self-realized individual, which is you, what matters most to you, how you get there and the obstacles that may be in your way. If you would like to be part of this podcast and part of that discussion, I welcome you here with an open heart, open mind and open arms. So, without further ado, let's get on with the podcast. Thank you for taking time out of your very valuable day to give me your time and energy for episode number 80, Life Unfiltered, Raw Truths and Real Talk. We are going to have a real discussion today about what it means to live life. Not only live life, but get through this life, because it's going to throw a lot of curve balls at you and me and a lot of times the question is how do we get through it? Not only get through it, but thrive and not just survive. There is an actual formula. There is a mindset that you can own and decide, that you're going to put into place now, today, that will allow you to move forward in life with tremendous commitment and courage and conviction. I call those the three C's towards what it is that you want to have in your life and accomplish.
Linton Bergsen:I'm going to start out today's episode with a quote from the movie Rocky starring Sylvester Stallone. It's a very famous movie. You may be very familiar with it and it is a quote from the movie from a scene where he is actually speaking to his son and giving him some advice to take into life and use on an everyday basis. It's filled with some very raw truths and real talk. Here is the quote. "The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are, it. Nobody is going to hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much you can take and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done". That is the quote.
Linton Bergsen:Looking at that quote and getting some real raw truths and real talk going here, a lot of times we just may think to ourselves that life is going to be a lot simpler than it is, that when we get hit we don't have to get up and keep moving forward. We just feel sorry for ourselves and complain about how difficult things are. That is not how life is going to give you what you want. Looking in the mirror and squarely accepting responsibility for who you are and where you are in life is a conversation that you begin to have with yourself. You begin to have some raw truths that you begin to look at and some real talk, some real admissions about what it is you're doing and why it is that you feel certain things about yourself and the limitations that you've put on yourself, where they've come from. And when you begin to have that unfiltered real talk with yourself, you begin to get down to the real depth of what it is that you need to begin to address to move your life forward.
Linton Bergsen:Is life nasty? It can be. It depends a lot upon what you're doing and who you're associating with and also, to a large extent, how far you're moving out of the status quo, how much you're disrupting what would be called, maybe, a family situation, that you're not keeping in the confines or parameters of what they would expect of you, whether you're pushing the parameters at work. Whatever you're doing, if you're going to be pushing the parameters, if you're going to be out there staking your claim in life. You might find that there are a lot more people out there who are going to be nasty towards you because when you disrupt the status quo, so to speak, you are also challenging other people about what it is they believe. You now become a point that they can look at and say you are a problem because you're stepping outside the lines. Now, because you're stepping outside the lines to express yourself in your own reality, it doesn't mean that other people are going to like you doing that, because you may be forcing them, because of what you're doing, to step out of their comfort zone, challenge their belief systems. Now you become a problem and we see that you're going to get hit. You're going to get that point where people may become nasty towards you. If you don't really feel that you can handle sometimes, the pressure of being outside the status quo, it's going to be easier for you to operate within the lines. You'll still get hit, but not as often. I would also suggest to you not as hard because you're not challenging the status quo.
Linton Bergsen:Here is a conversation that you can have with yourself ongoing how far do you want to take life? How far do you want to go. I will make a suggestion to you. You can go as far as you want, as long as you want, to any place that you want, as long as you have the mindset and realize and own within yourself. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place. It will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it and here's a key If you let it. Don't let this world beat you to your knees and keep you there. Get up, keep moving forward and fight for what's yours.
Linton Bergsen:It doesn't matter what people are saying to you about you and your abilities, what limitations that they want to put on you. Here's a raw truth and some real talk. The biggest thing that's going to hold you back in life from being all that you can be is caring what other people think of you. It doesn't matter what they think of you. It's what you think of you that matters. You keep going and you keep moving forward. And here's the interesting thing about that quote if you really want to get what you want out of life, this is what it says. It ain't about how hard you get hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. That's the quote. That's how winning is done. You want to be a winner, you want to be victorious, you want to have something of meaning in your life that means something to you. Then the key to the whole structure of life is follow your path. Don't worry about the naysayers. If you get hit a few times and you fall down, get up and keep moving forward. That's the three words. That is your mantra. That can change your life.
Linton Bergsen:There are many mantras you can have. I give another one in episode number 74, don't give up, don't let go. It's your self-talk, it's what you're telling yourself. You can add to that Don't give up, don't let go, keep moving forward. That is the winning attitude. You cannot give up because the going gets tough, the tough. Get going when the going gets tough. That's a saying that is the same essence of keep going, keep moving forward. When you move forward and you gain some success, you get some traction.
Linton Bergsen:The unfortunate reality is this you may think that people will be happy for you, not always Just because you're doing well, just because you have reached a place that you are happy with within yourself. You may think that other people would be happy for you as well. Not always they are jealous. They can be vindictive. They want to bring you down from where you are. They don't want to do the work that you have done to gain what you have. They don't want to do the personal development and the introspection and looking in the mirror that I mentioned earlier. No, they don't want to do that, but they want what you have. They want part of your success. They may want part of your success and they may want to use your energy now you've reached a certain point. Don't let them Choose your friends and your associates very carefully. Be mindful, be aware that people sometimes just want to use your energy when you get to a certain point in life.
Linton Bergsen:Yes is the reality of the world is a nasty place. Of course, it is because people don't always have your best interest at heart. For the most part, they have their own. That is why things like betrayal are so hard to process, because trust violated means that simply, people had their own agenda and presented it to you as they had your well-being and what they thought about you and how you would feel as part of their life. That inclusivity you accepted and trusted. The unfortunate thing about betrayal is that you find out that they in fact didn't. The only thing they really had in their own mind was their own well-being, and you were just a pawn in their game.
Linton Bergsen:Betrayal and abuse of trust can happen personally and professionally. The question becomes do you get up, do you keep moving forward when these things happen in your life? Because the raw truth and the real talk is this they are going to happen. It's just a question of when and how. When you have the mindset that you can keep moving forward, you will keep moving forward. One of the important components of owning that and putting it into practice every day and understanding what it means to have it as a real reality in your own life is this.
Linton Bergsen:I'm going to give you a quote now from Muhammad Ali, and I'm using boxing metaphors and examples today, because we're talking about being hit and getting up, not remaining on your knees permanently, and who would know that better than boxers? Muhammad Ali said this, and this is the quote I hated every minute of training, but I said don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion. That is the quote from Muhammad Ali, the common thread here is this that I want to share with you today that you can really begin to use and inculcate in your own consciousness and begin to really really put it in place to keep moving forward. You're going to have to do things you don't like, go through things you don't want to, in order to get what you want, to get where you need to go. That is life, unfiltered. That is a raw truth. That is real talk.
Linton Bergsen:Don't try and sugarcoat that life will be easy or that you won't have to go through difficult times. You are. If you're going to be an entrepreneur, if you're going to achieve anything of meaning or value, personally or professionally, it is going to be difficult at times. You're not going to like what people say, what people do, what happens to you, the effort and the pain that you're going to have to go through to achieve what it is that you want. But here is the beauty of this absolute fantastic journey of life. Sounds counter, counterintuitive, but it is actually a reality.
Linton Bergsen:Overcoming the nay says, overcoming the pain, going through all the obstacles that will be put in front of you to get where you need to go, is going to shape you into the human being and the spiritual being that you are designed to be. Like anything else in life, we are shaped and we are honed by the situations and circumstances that we overcome not succumb to overcome, move forward through and come out the other side victorious. You cannot be shaped by anything that gets the better of you. You lose, you have to get the better of it. The self-realized individual understands that as a deep internal realization. That is what self-realization is. That is what the self-realized individual is always striving towards the understanding of the depth of the power that they possess inwardly to overcome things outwardly through developing processes and things that they are able to work with inwardly Meditation, some silence, some solitude, gathering inner strength. So, like a hurricane that has an eye, you keep gathering momentum and you keep gathering strength. So when you need to use that energy that you've spent time gathering, it is unleashed with force and most people would crumble. You rise.
Linton Bergsen:The reason. I know that this works, that you need to get up and keep going when you get hit, because I've been punched, I have been belittled, I have been bullied severely. I have a whole life story and litany of things I could share with you. Not necessary. I'm just telling you now that I've been through what I have been through and I know this works and I'm sharing it with you because I have seen people who have got hit, who have got bullied, who've got belittled and I'm not talking about once, because you don't get hit just once, you have to get up more than once. That's a real truth. That's real talk.
Linton Bergsen:You have a lifetime of dealing with people, situation and circumstances and because there's so many people, situations, circumstances, there's a lot of people, a lot of things that can hit you. Life can sometimes make you out to be a target of whatever people are going through. They may even want to take it out on you, but if you're a moving target and you're adapting, you're a lot harder to hit. You don't become so easy to attack. That's just common sense. So keep moving, keep bobbing, keep weaving, just like a boxer does in the ring. They're not stationary, they're a moving target. They're a lot harder to hit.
Linton Bergsen:Keep reinventing yourself, keep moving forward, no matter how difficult it becomes, and you will see that at the end of the day, when you have achieved and accomplished so many different things and you have gotten up off your knees, no matter how many times you were down your character, your belief in yourself, your self-confidence, the self-realization that you have about you is going to be totally different than if you just laid on the canvas and allowed the punches to rain upon you. You cannot survive that. A lot of people, unfortunately, to avoid the pain of the punches being arrayed upon them, turn to all kinds of different substances and different things to not experience the punches, the pain. The problem is is that when you're in the arena of life, they're not going to go away. The punches aren't going to stop coming and you can't numb them forever. What you can do is is don't get involved in numbing the pain, don't avoid the punches. Step into the ring, condition yourself, get ready to fight, get ready to win, get ready to be all you can be. And when you step into that ring, you look life in the eye, which is essentially your opponent, and you look at life in the eye and you say bring it on, I'm conditioned, I'm ready, I am able, I am willing to do what it takes to get where I need to go, because I know and I realize for myself, as a self-realized individual, that everything that I have and everything that I am is already inside of me crying to get out and be expressed and I'm going to use everything in me, no matter how hard it gets, how hard I get hit, that I will keep getting up and keep moving forward. You possess that mindset. You cannot be anything but victorious in anything you set out to accomplish in your life.
