Welcome to the Self-Realized Podcast with Linton Bergsen, where you will shatter your limits. I am not much into the self-help industry as much as I'm into the self-realized individual, which is you, what matters most to you, how you get there and the obstacles that may be in your way. If you would like to be part of this podcast and part of that discussion, I welcome you here with an open heart, open mind and open arms. So without further ado, let's get on with the podcast. A very warm welcome to the Self-Realized Shatter your Limits podcast, episode number 92, Balancing Your Human and Spiritual Nature: 3 Practical Steps.
Linton Bergsen:What does it actually mean to balance both human and spiritual natures, and do we in fact have two natures? Do you recognize that as a reality in your own life? Because until you recognize it as a reality, then you can't get involved in the concept of integrating both. So the question you would need to ask yourself, I suggest to you, is do you acknowledge you have two natures, human and spiritual? If you do indeed recognize and acknowledge that, the second question would be are you integrating them and know how to? By the end of this episode you will have an understanding of how you begin to integrate both of those natures together for your business and your personal success, because they exist. They exist in us, which is our spiritual nature, and then outwardly in the world, which is our human nature. So if we understand the concept of human nature being the outward expression of how we behave and our spiritual nature being the inner realization of how we can act and not react to the ongoing situations and circumstances that occur in our life, we begin to have an integration. So I'm going to give you three different behaviors that exist within the human nature and the spiritual nature and how you can begin to integrate and balance them both out together so you can have a very successful life and a greater sense of well-being, which essentially I'm sure you would agree we all want and we are all seeking. I mentioned. I was going to give you three behaviors that we can look at in our human and spiritual nature and how to balance them out.
Linton Bergsen:Let me start out with looking at anger as part of our human nature. That's the first one, because we all have anger in some form one way or another in our lives. It's universal when we have anger build up in us because of certain things that go on in our life that create anger or events that have gone on. We have the ability, within our spiritual nature, to counteract that anger with developing more peace. So now you're beginning to balance out between your human and spiritual nature, how you act instead of react to a human emotion, which is anger, and apply a spiritual self-realization, which it is a realization, an in-depth realization that you've worked upon, of peace. That's how you begin to balance out your human and spiritual natures. There's always an antidote for one or the other, in this case, anger, peace.
Linton Bergsen:The second one I'm going to give you as a human nature, a human behavior, once again, that we all have. It's a reality, which is anxiety. As I mentioned in several different podcast episodes, anxiety and fear go together. So, when you have anxiety coming up within you as a human emotion, as a human realization, when your heart starts racing, when you feel things are out of control, what would be the spiritual component, the spiritual behavior, the inner realization that you would bring to bear upon the anxiety that you feel at a very human level? The spiritual counterpart, the balance weight for anxiety is faith, because once you begin to have that spiritual component in your life an inner realization of faith, you begin to have less anxiety and fear. Anxiety and fear have a very hard time living in an individual who's filled with faith because they know, no matter what, things will work out, even though they may not see it and know it currently how it's going to, but they know because of faith that it will. It helps dispel on a spiritual level, your spiritual nature, anxiety.
Linton Bergsen:Number three, an emotion, a feeling that we are all familiar with, that we go through in our life. It comes, it goes, but it does exist in the human experiences that we have in our human nature, is resentment. We can resent certain things. We can resent the way that someone may have had a promotion at work and we didn't get that promotion. We may resent the way we've been treated, be upset about it, even feel a sense of betrayal. So what is the antidote to resentment? How do we begin to go internally into our spiritual nature so we can offset this resentment that is disruptive on an ongoing basis and really disturb our peace and well-being?
Linton Bergsen:The first part of it is, in my experience with myself, and I share this with you is understanding, understanding where other people are coming from. Why did they do that? Is their ego involved? Are there other parameters within their own life that they are projecting on you in order to do certain things to you? Now, when I say do certain things to you, it's because sometimes, when we feel resentment, it's because something or someone has done something in our lives that causes us to feel betrayed or unappreciated, maybe violated a trust or confidence that you had in them. Resentment is a very powerful emotion because it gnaws away at us. It begins to erode away at the very fabric of our being. But if we add a little understanding about the perspective of life, which is really a divine understanding, and try to understand rather than be understood, we have greater peace in our life Because, for the most part, people are not going to understand us or where we are coming from. So we, in order to have peace, you, in order to have peace, are better off trying to understand other people. In other words, why did they treat you that way? How do you overcome that? You have to exercise some patience as well, as well as some compassion. Again, all of these are inner spiritual awakenings from your spiritual nature to counteract the human experiences that you're having through your human nature.
Linton Bergsen:The issue becomes are you really willing to develop your spiritual nature? Because your spiritual nature requires a lot more development and attention than your human nature. Why? Because your human nature is constantly interacting with the outside world. It's what you get up in the morning and you do every day. You interact and sometimes react to the outside world continually. Your spiritual nature is not a reactive interactive mode with the outside world. Your spiritual nature requires you to cultivate an inner sanctuary, an inner awareness, an inner prompting when you look at developing the three areas of behavior that I mentioned today of the spiritual nature, which are peace, faith, understanding. They require time alone in solitude, silence and stillness for you to access them and, more importantly, to activate them, because your spiritual nature needs to be activated in order for you to balance it out with your human nature.
Linton Bergsen:Your human nature is natural. Most people operate from that place most of the time, looking at what would please others, how things look, who they may or may not date, the car they may drive, the people they know. There's a lot going on there that people are getting involved in as to how the world would perceive them or how things would look. Would their family approve? Would their friends approve? These are all outward human experiences that we're trying to interact to please the world. The inner nature has nothing to do with that. The inner nature, the inner spiritual nature, is always about your own personal well-being. It's about how you feel about you. That is the journey of the self-realized individual the personal development of you, the personal development of you working on yourself to establish peace, faith and understanding as a reality within yourself for you to feel complete.
Linton Bergsen:If you think about the three behaviors that are an integral component of your spiritual nature which I've mentioned in today's episode peace, faith, understanding. Along with understanding you can add compassion, if you like. These are all behaviors that you cultivate. They are behaviors that you have decided you're going to add to your being because it gives you a greater sense of well-being. How do you begin to work on your spiritual nature? Because your human nature, for the most part, exists in and of itself. A lot of times it's in control.
Linton Bergsen:If you look at the three emotions or three behaviors that I mentioned in today's episode that are part of our human nature anger, anxiety and resentment. You don't have to work on those three to have them, they already exist. They're just part of an everyday existence. You don't work on having anxiety, it exists. nger happens. It's the same with resentment.
Linton Bergsen:Looking at activating, once again, I mentioned that earlier in the episode and it is an important word activating peace, faith and understanding. You would have to and I use the word have to, because it's not really a choice. If you want to have a stronger body, you have to go to the gym. It's not really a choice. , it's just what you have to do. It's the same with your spiritual nature.
Linton Bergsen:There are certain have-to's that you have to begin to implement in your life on an ongoing, daily basis, in order to have the power within your own being, within your own self-realization, of how important it is to cultivate your spiritual nature. Why? Because when you are confronted in this world with people, with situations, with circumstances, are you going to continually respond with anger, anxiety and resentment? Because if you don't develop the spiritual nature. That's all the tools you have in your toolbox. Or are you going to make a conscious and it is a very conscious, wise decision to set time and space and energy aside for yourself to develop?
Linton Bergsen:What I would suggest to you is much more important and much stronger to own and possess in your life in order to have as the backbone the backdrop of where you act from, and not react when the human nature begins to get activated and triggered in this world. The three attributes that I'm suggesting that you build as foundation are peace, faith, understanding. Now, there are a lot more that you can develop within your spiritual nature, but just developing those three, you will find that when you go out into the world and you spent the time developing them by taking time out, by walking in nature, by taking some solitude, by making time to make this a priority that when people say things to you, situations happen in your life, you are not reacting the same way that you did before because you have a reference point, you have a place. now that you have begun to develop that, you know what peace feels like and you want more of that. Anything that is going to disrupt your peace you actually want to move away from you, know how to begin to center yourself, how to work with your breath, because when you get involved in working with peace, a lot of it is understanding how the breath works, how your nervous system works, how you get triggered.
Linton Bergsen:Working with your spiritual nature and working with your breath will, in fact, help you to not get angry as quickly or as often, and when you don't get angry or upset as quickly or as often, you make better decisions. So an investment you have to look at it this way an investment in your spiritual nature gives you so many dividends long term in your life. Think on this for a moment. If you spent some time, real time, in meditation, solitude, peace, developing that peace, getting away from people, think about how much more meaningful and what better decisions you would make from a place of peace than you would from a place of anger. Contemplate on that for a moment and then ask yourself this question is it worth developing and taking the time to develop that spiritual nature and hone in on developing that peace? Contemplate on this. Can you imagine if you thought about your life and you went back and reflected for a while the decisions you've made because you reacted or got angry or things that you may have said and wish you didn't. If you could take them back, if you can make different decisions and make them from a more centered place of peace , acted instead of reacted do you think you would have made better decisions? I think you would have.
Linton Bergsen:I think, if you answer that question honestly, the answer is yes, the same with faith. If fear and anxiety are not serving you that is your human nature then you have to develop your spiritual nature with prayer, meditation and developing faith in something bigger than yourself. It is a non-negotiable item, because if you're going to rely on yourself for everything and every answer, you will have constant anxiety, you will have constant fear, because there's no way you can ever figure out the unknown, and life is filled with the unknown. Lastly, if you look at resentment, which I have given you in today's episode, and then you look at understanding, would you rather have resentment which then turns into anger, which can then turn into anxiety and triggering all three that we've mentioned today, or would you rather take a moment of contemplative reflection within the peace that you have now learned to establish within yourself, and get to a point of understanding, get to a point of compassion?
Linton Bergsen:There is a saying that I do like it's better to understand than be understood. Why? It's kind of self-serving in a way. It gives you greater peace Because when you try to understand a situation from someone else's point of view, you might not agree with it, you might even condone it. Your value system may be completely different, your goals not agree with it, you might even condone it. Your value system may be completely different, your goals may be completely different, but understanding allows you to let go and let other people be. When you say I understand where you're coming from, mean it and then don't get involved in any conflict or conversations trying to convince someone else or trying to make yourself right or trying to say that this is the way it should be. No, I understand where you're coming from.
Linton Bergsen:Done you keep your peace? Because you, more importantly, understand where you're coming from and you protecting your peace, you keeping that center, is more important than you giving it away to everything and everyone that comes along on an ongoing basis. It just doesn't work in our lives every day, ongoing for a consistent sense of well-being and isn't that what you want? A consistent sense, as much as you can, of well-being. And how do you begin to establish that sense of well-being, how do you begin to get into ownership of this sense of well-being? How do you begin to make it a real reality in your life?
Linton Bergsen:There's only one way that I've found in mine, and I'm sharing it with you today, in today's episode, and that is by balancing your human and spiritual nature, taking practical steps, as I've given you today, in order for you to accomplish that. As I mentioned, practical steps are when you have anger, you counteract it with peace, which you have developed. When you have anxiety, you counteract it with faith. When you have resentment, you counteract it with understanding and some compassion. That is three practical steps, three practical ways, three practical things you can cultivate to balance the scale between what's going on in your human nature and what's going on in your spiritual nature, by committing to the time and the effort that is required to balance, activate and access your spiritual nature so you can work with it successfully.
Linton Bergsen:With your human nature is a commitment of time, effort and energy. Spending some time alone, as much as you can get of solitude and stillness, in order for you to feel that peace and begin to have it as a place that you can go to when the world is trying to get the better of you. The same with anxiety. Through prayer, meditation, understanding your own intuitive sense, trusting your inner voice and your inner guidance, you will have greater faith. When things aren't working out for you which is inevitable you will have that still small voice, which I talk about a lot in different episodes, that will guide you. It will relieve some of the anxiety. You will learn to trust that still small voice and have faith as to where it is taking you, because you keep accessing it and using it time and time again.
Linton Bergsen:You cannot begin to use anything that you haven't cultivated. You cannot use a muscle if you haven't strengthened it in the gym. If you expect to have a functioning body, you have to put the time and the effort and the work into it or it will deteriorate and you will pay the price for it. You will have illness, you won't be able to move, you will have joints that begin to hurt. It's the same with your spiritual and human nature.
Linton Bergsen:If you want to have a greater sense of well-being, you have to put the work into balancing your human and spiritual nature. Once you've decided to integrate both of those balance them out, you'll have the ability to have a great sense of well-being, better decision-making, better health and better relationships. Because without balancing your human and spiritual nature with the three practical steps I've given you today, you're going to be imbalanced, and usually we get imbalanced with our human nature and then we get overwhelmed. I know you don't want that for yourself. You know you don't want that for yourself. So I strongly suggest begin to strengthen, develop your spiritual nature with putting time and effort into constructing, building, accessing your deep spiritual nature, which you are fully aware of is already there. Of course, you want a greater sense of peace, to have greater faith, to have greater understanding and compassion. Why? Because they create a better sense of well-being in you, less conflict with yourself and the world. So begin on this journey of self-realization to a deeper and more meaningful life that can only be attained through truthfully balancing your human and spiritual nature. And just start out with the three practical steps that I've given you today to integrate them both and you will begin to see the profound difference that it makes in your life.
