Self Realized, Shatter Your Limits

Motivation and Momentum: Unleash Your Best Self

Linton Bergsen Episode 108

Have you ever felt that surge of motivation, only to see it fade as quickly as it appeared? The problem isn't your determination—it's the invisible relationship between motivation and momentum that most people misunderstand.

Join me Linton Bergsen for this episode of the Self Realized, Shatter Your Limits podcast and discover how motivation and momentum function as energetic twins in your personal transformation journey. While motivation provides that initial spark—the why behind your actions—momentum is the sustaining force that carries you forward when inspiration inevitably wanes. Most people wait for motivation to strike like lightning, but this approach leads to stalled progress at the first obstacle.

At the heart of this struggle lies fear— False Evidence Appearing Real. Fear operates not through external threats but by undermining your relationship with your own intuition. Fear causes you to ignore your internal compass, suppress authentic expression, and doubt your capabilities. This disconnection keeps you spiritually, emotionally, personally and professionally stagnant.

Your feelings aren't enemies to be overcome but powerful signals waiting to be properly interpreted. Intuition manifests differently across all aspects of life: spiritually alerting you when something's misaligned with your purpose, emotionally coloring your motivations, personally guiding you toward necessary boundaries, and professionally leading toward innovation when properly heeded. The challenge lies in distinguishing between genuine intuition and habitual negative self-talk rooted in past conditioning.

Through my own experience at a spiritual retreat, I discovered the transformative power of approaching uncomfortable feelings with curiosity rather than judgment. This simple shift can spark new pathways for motivation and creativity previously blocked by resistance. The practical four-step process I share—pausing to name feelings, asking "what if," taking small consistent steps, and reconnecting with purpose—provides a concrete framework for harnessing intuition to fuel unstoppable momentum.

Linton Bergsen:

Today's episode number 108, is Motivation and Momentum. Unleash Your Best Self. Today we are diving deep into the energetic twins I like to call them of transformation, motivation and momentum. They go together and we'll explore how the courage and it does take courage to listen to your feelings and intuition which I mention a lot in all of the episodes, because intuition is the very core component of the self-realized individual's journey and how that can change everything and exploring how fear stands between you and the future that you so truly deserve. In order for you to really possess motivation and momentum, you do have to overcome fear, which is False Evidence Appearing Real. I've used the acronym in other episodes A lot of times. We don't always acknowledge that having true motivation and momentum in our lives in order for you to unleash your best self does require you overcoming fear to have consistent motivation and momentum.

Linton Bergsen:

Let's look at defining motivation and momentum. Imagine for a moment you're standing at the starting line of a great race that surge, that you have at that moment a mix of anticipation and hope. That's motivation. But what carries you after the first exhilarating steps? That's momentum. Motivation is our internal spark, the why we do what we do behind our actions. Momentum is the invisible force that keeps you moving, fueling every action that you take. Momentum is sustained by the ongoing feelings that you're having about what you were motivated to do. Many people wait for motivation to strike like lightning, but if you rely on fleeting inspiration, your journey often halts at the first obstacle and what you're trying to avoid is fleeting inspiration.

Linton Bergsen:

Let's look at fear, feelings and stalled momentum. Let me share a story with you about facing fear in the workplace. A client, let's call her Maria was up for promotion. Now, she was competent, but felt paralyzed. Her fear wasn't about failing her team. It was about trusting her own instincts and sharing bold new ideas. Instead, she second-guessed every feeling and momentum stalled.

Linton Bergsen:

Why? Because fear often convinces us to ignore our feelings, the very intuitive compass that drives motivation and momentum, preventing you from unleashing your best self. How does fear block us? Fear causes us to ignore intuition. What if I'm wrong? Suppress our authentic feelings? Maybe I shouldn't speak up, doubt our purpose, someone else will do it better. This internal stalling keeps you rooted in the same place spiritually, emotionally, personally and professionally.

Linton Bergsen:

Let's understand feelings. They can fuel you, drive your motivation, give you momentum, or they can create friction. Let me give you an everyday example about listening to intuition. Have you ever felt to pick up the phone and call a friend, only to find that they truly needed you, or felt uneasy about a project at work and later realized your instincts were spot on? Let's take a look at listening to your intuition in four specific areas.

Linton Bergsen:

Number one spiritually. Our feelings alert us when something's off or when we are aligned with our true purpose. Number two emotionally. Emotions color our motivation. Joy can make us bold, sadness slows us down, anger can spark action or regret. Number three personally listening to your intuition can mean changing direction, embracing rest or simply setting boundaries. Number four professionally. Acting on gut feelings can lead to innovation. History has shown us that in business time and time again. Or, conversely, when ignored can mean missed opportunities. Feelings are not your enemies. It's knowing how to use your feelings correctly. The key is in listening, discerning real intuition from old habits, negative self-talk holding you back, rooted in fear.

Linton Bergsen:

How do you harness your feelings to drive positive momentum? Let me give an example in my own life, share a story with you of my own spiritual self-realization. Many years ago I was at a retreat and I found myself struggling with a sense of being stuck in my life no motivation, no momentum. On the outside, things were thriving. However, inside, I felt disconnected. The breakthrough came in a meditation that I decided to take time for, when I stopped resisting uncomfortable feelings and got curious instead that curiosity, rather than judgment or negative self-talk or allowing previous bad habits or subconscious programming to take hold. The curiosity sparked a new wave of motivation and creativity. Sometimes we don't understand the power of curiosity.

Linton Bergsen:

To be a great motivator, it is important to identify what it is your feeling. Begin to decipher what it is you want to examine further. Be curious about what's going on within you and your feelings, and then act upon what it is you choose to do about the feelings that are coming up within you and it is important to acknowledge within yourself. It is a very important choice at that moment. I am going to give you four things that you can do to help you, in daily life, make the right choices. Number one when you feel something, pause and name it. For example, if you were to feel hesitation, label it. What is causing your hesitation? Is it fear, doubt, or are you in fact, questioning your intuition? Number two ask what if? Instead of resisting, ask. Ask yourself, what if I listened to this feeling? What could be possible? Number three take small steps. Momentum doesn't need big steps. Tiny actions, one step at a time, build unstoppable energy. Number four connect with your purpose. Remember why you started. Write your why where you can see it daily, so it helps you to remain motivated.

Linton Bergsen:

Let's talk now about unleashing your momentum. Are you ready to unleash your momentum on a regular basis, starting today? I'm going to give you some actions that you can take when you are not listening to this podcast. Take a three-minute pause and check in with your feelings. Before your next decision. What is your intuition saying? Identify one fear, write it down. Ask is this fear protecting me or holding me back? Share your intent. Tell someone your next small step, build accountability and support. Celebrate small wins.

Linton Bergsen:

Momentum builds when you acknowledge progress, not just big victories. Your best self is not a distant destination. It is the part of you waiting to be unleashed by your action, your awareness and your courage. Fear can stall, but listening to your feelings, truly honoring them, turns the key to both motivation and momentum. Your intuition is not a whisper to be ignored. It's the drumbeat that leads your life's greatest motivation and momentum. Take one inspired step today and unleash your best self. Acknowledge your intuition. Trust yourself, which is the destination of a self-realized individuals, knowing that they are their own greatest resource.
